Redefining Environmental Accountability

Toyota Industries Corporation, as the parent company, has instilled a rich corporate doctrine of environmental stewardship in Toyota. Not a lot of other organizations and no other lift truck maker can match Toyota's record of protecting the natural environment while concurrently stimulating the economy. Environmental accountability is an important characteristic of company decision making at Toyota and they are proud to be the first and only producer to offer UL-listed, EPA- and CARB-certified Compressed Natural Gas powered lift vehicles. Yet one more reason they remain a leader within the industry.

Toyota originally released the 8-Series line of lift trucks in 2006, yet again exhibiting its leadership and innovation in the industry. Featuring an exclusive emission system that eclipsed both Federal EPA emission principles, and California's more environmentally friendly emission standards. The end invention is a lift vehicle that creates 70 percent less smog forming emissions than the current Federal standards tolerate.

What's more in 2006, Toyota established an affiliation with the Arbor Day Foundation, furthering their commitment to the environment. Upwards of 57,000 trees have been planted in regional parks and national forests damaged by environmental causes such as fires, as a product of this relationship. 10,500 seedlings have also been circulated through Toyota Industrial Equipment's network of sellers to non-profit organizations and local consumers to help sustain communities all over the United States

Industry-Leading Safety

Toyota's lift vehicles offer superior output, visibility, ergonomics and resilience, and most importantly, the industry's leading safety technology. The company's System of Active Stability, often known as "SAS", helps limit the possibility of accidents and accidental injuries, and increasing productivity levels while minimizing the potential for product and equipment breakage.

System Active Stability senses numerous factors that might lead to lateral volatility and likely lateral overturn. When any of those factors are detected, SAS instantaneously engages the Swing Lock Cylinder to steady the rear axle. This changes the lift truck's stability footprint from triangular in shape to rectangular, offering a major increase in stability which substantially reduces the likelihood of a mishap from a lateral overturn. The Active Mast Function Controller or the Active Control Rear Stabilizer also aids to prevent injuries or accidents while adding strength.

The SAS systems were initially utilized on the 7-Series internal combustion lift trucks which were put on the market in 1999. These systems helped boost Toyota into the lead for industry safety standards. Now, SAS is utilized on practically every new internal combustion models and is standard equipment for the new 8-Series. There are more than 100,000 SAS-equipped lift vehicles in action, exceeding 450 million hours combined. The increased population of SAS-equipped vehicles in the field, along with required operator instruction, overturn fatalities across all designs have decreased by 13.6% since 1999. Additionally, there has been an overall 35.5% reduction in industry wide collisions, loss of control, falls and overturn from a lift truck for the same period.

Toyota's rigid values extend far beyond the technology itself. The company believes in providing extensive Operator Safety Training services to help clients satisfy and exceed OSHA standard 1910.178. Education programs, video lessons and various resources, covering a wide scope of subjects-from personal safety, to OSHA policies, to surface and cargo conditions, are offered through the vendor network.

Toyota's U.S. Commitment

Toyota has sustained a continuous presence in the United States ever since its first sale. In 2009, Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing, created its 350,000th lift vehicle.
